RADAR for Film
Recording and producing a film’s sound makes up a huge part of any film’s total production process. Scoring and post-production houses have come to trust RADAR’s reputation for reducing training time and project down time, letting engineers focus on getting the job done. Here’s how RADAR can help keep film projects on time and on-budget:
Scoring Stages
- RADAR’s “RECORD ON CHASE” and “PROJECT PER TAKE” features automate the scoring stage process. Roll back the scene and record it again and again – RADAR is there punching in and out and automatically creating and labeling new takes. At the end of the day, RADAR has done all the work – and the session is completed efficiently in the minimum amount of time.
Audio Post Production
- BWAV export to DAW. RADAR records natively to BWAV format and gives you the option of exporting to DAW via Gigabit Ethernet or DVD.
- Adrenaline Plus recording engine uses a high resolution frequency- synthesized digital phase lock loop (FSD-PLL) to produce unparalleled digital recording fidelity.
- Seamless Punches & File Flattening make it fast and easy to edit and consolidate overdubs.
- Professional Sync: Get speed and positional referencing from a variety of sync sources including: LTC, MTC, Video Sync, Word Clock, and AES/EBU. LTC can be chased in both forward and reverse directions for film applications. RADAR’s internal clock circuitry features multiple dedicated, application-specific PLLs for the best performance possible. RADAR also uses differential clock lines for superior noise rejection meaning a cleaner, more stable clock signal.
- The MARK SYNC feature adds an additional marker to an audio region. This sync marker makes it easy to place sounds and sound effects precisely at spotted time code locations.
- Sony 9-pin Machine Control slip-lock-to-video implementation “glues” audio to the picture for frame-accurate synchronization and virtual instant lock. RADAR project settings also include selections for the emulation of BVU-950, DVR-1000, APR-24 and RADAR RS-422 IDs.
- Soundmaster Compatibility allows RADAR to be completely controlled from the Soundmaster ION operating environment. Soundmaster uses RADAR’s proprietary Session Controller remote interface to bring every parameter of RADAR operation under EDL control for unprecedented speed and flexibility in creating audio for film and television applications.
- Multiple RADARs can be connected via RADARLink for sample-accurate synchronization. Up to 8 RADAR units can be connected for up to 192 tracks of 192 kHz recording.
- MADI option board with dual Coax/Optical interface. RADAR is the only recorder on the market with daisy-chainable MADI I/O that presents multiple RADAR units to digital mixing engines as a single, interleaved MADI port.
- MACRO KEYS allow users to increase speed and enhance productivity by eliminating repetitive keystrokes on the Session Controller. User-programmable.
- The Session Controller Professional Remote can control up to 8 RADARs and features an auto-locator-style transport control surface that includes: 10 one-touch locates (99 locates total); Jog/Shuttle wheel; 48 direct track arming keys; 8 macro keys; dedicated keys for commonly used functions; QWERTY keyboard; and more.
